This homeowner in Great Barrington, MA called us out to their home to take a look an an issue that has been concerning them. They were noticing a musty odor coming up from the crawlspace underneath the home. We got to the home and took a look and noticed a huge mold issue in the nasty, damp dirt crawlspace! We also noticed the access door to the area from outside was old and rotted. Crawlspaces have a high level of humidity, which can and will lead to mold. Mold grows on and wood rots, and insects can easily begin nesting. Musty odors can even travel upstairs into your home to your living space! Eventually flooring will have to be replaced, and mold to be remediation. This air from the crawlspace is difficult to cool and heat creating a bigger electricity bill for homeowners!
To fix the issues with this nasty, damp, dirt vented crawlspace we use out Dr. Energy Saver Crawl Space Insulation System treatment. First we take out all of the old insulation and make sure the dirt floor is all level. Now we are ready to start the process. We seal up vents and all air leaks with our insulated vent covers. Next, we insulate the crawlspace walls with our 4' SilverGlo insulation boards. Next, we set down a dimpled plastic drainage mat to create an airspace and thermal break. TerraBlock floor insulation is installed over the dimple mat. Finally, a heavy duty crawl space insulation liner is inserted permanently across the entire dirt floor. This protects the area from and possible bacteria and fungi growth. The last thing we need to do is replace this rotted crawlspace door from the outside of the home. Now that this crawlspace is fully insulated, air sealed, and insulated these homeowners can now live happier, healthier, and more energy efficient! Thanks Dr. Energy Saver!
This home owner in Colebrook, CT called us to his home to see if we could fix his water problem. The problem was that his basement windows were old and let water leak right into the home!
To fix this we replaced the old basement window with beautiful new slider windows. Making sure that the window is installed properly and caulked correctly.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions have completed this install, this home owner will not have to worry about leaky basement windows ever again!
These home owners in Stockbridge, MA had called us because they where getting a lot of water in their crawlspace. Water anywhere near a home can be bad news for the home and the home owners. It can lead to rotting of the wood on house and can also bring up the relative humidity leading to mold. The last thing we want in our house is mold to start growing so when we see signs that it could occur, we want to stop this before it starts.
To stop all these problems from occurring we have to get the water out from the crawlspace. To do this we installed our Super Sump Pump by jack hammering a 5 gallon or more hole in the floor of the crawlspace. Then we install our pump into the hole we made and back fill it with clean trap rock. Last thing to do is run the discharge pipe from the pump away from the home. Now these home owners will not have a problem with water damage in there home!
These homeowners in Stockbridge, MA had called us out to diagnose a couple of issues their home was having. One of the issues the homeowner was having was the inconsistent temperatures through the home. To solve this, we dense packed the exterior walls of the home. First step is to pull of the wooden shake siding the home has. After carefully doing this, we drilled holes in each bay. Then we dense packed each bay in the house. After that, we closed the whole up and put pack the wooden shake siding. Now this home is more comfortable and efficient year round!
These homeowners in Simsbury, CT had called us about a problem they were having in their home. The problem was that their daughter's room was either way too cold or way too hot depending on the temperature outside. One of our building specialists came out and diagnosed the problem right away. One of the walls in the bedroom was exposed to the attic above the garage. Right away, we knew exactly what to do.
We started by blocking the floor of the attic in the garage so that no cold air could get into the floor joist running under her bedroom. The next thing we did was run our 4" SilverGlo along the wall to stop the cold or hot air from penetrating the wall and stop it from making the room so hot, humid, and uncomfortable. Now that we came out and took care of this problem, this family will now be more comfortable in there home!
This home owner in Simsbury, CT called us to his home to see what we could do to make his home office warmer. When we got to the home our building science specialist saw that there was a crawlspace with a bilco door attached to it! This was making the office very cold.
To fix this we encapsulated the crawl space. After we did that we had to finish this space off by installing a basement door. To do this we first build the frame of the door. Then we custom cut the door to the correct size for the opening we had. Then we properly installed the door, air sealed any gaps, and properly weatherstripped the door.
Once Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions completed this treatment, this home owner will now be able to work in comfort in his home!
This homeowner called us out to their home in Simsbury, CT to take a look at some problems they were having. They called us out originally to take a look at their attic because they were having Ice Damns in the winter. We went to the home and performed a full Home Energy Evaluation and while walking through the basement we noticed that they had old, nasty fiberglass insulation in their basement ceilings. We wanted to take care of this part of the home first. This was allowing a lot of air to travel from the cold/hot basement up into the home, decreasing energy efficiency. Concrete basement walls are a nuisance in the winters, the foundation of the home that sticks up from the ground is always more than 17 degrees colder than the temperature of the ground. The ground is already about 17 degrees colder than we want the temperature of our homes can be. There is no way to heat these concrete walls up, making it difficult to keep cold air out of the basement, leaking into your home. In the summer, warm humid air from outside hit these cold basement walls and condensation forms and makes this a breeding ground for mold! The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing of the home. The joints and gaps between framing members allow for an extensive amount of air leakage into the home. This home, like most others did not have any air sealing at their rim joist. Even if the basement ceiling is insulated, especially when it is insulated with old, fiberglass insulation it will not stop air floor from the basement into your home. With the concrete walls, old fiberglass insulation, and a rim joist that is not air sealed this created cold floors, cold/very humid basements, and higher heat and electricity bills.
To fix these issues we performed a number of our Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions treatments. First, we need to get rid of all that old, nasty fiberglass insulation in the basement ceiling. We properly bag up and dispose of these materials. Next, we have to install our Foamax Polyisocranurate form insulation boards over the concrete basement walls. This Fomax insulation board is flame retardant, to keep up to building code. It also has a foil facing to reflect heat to the insulation doesn't have to work alone to keep the basement cool or warm depending on the season. We install this foam board onto the walls and secure them with Dr. Energy Saver's proprietary foam-tite fasteners. Now we have successfully taken care of the concrete walls. Next, we need to air seal out rim joist. We spray our two-part expanding spray foam on the rim joist and over the top plated to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of your home. We make sure to seal the spray foam to the Foamax walls so that no air can escape the gap there would be between the two. After this is done we have successfully air sealed and insulated this basement. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner can now live comfortably and energy efficiently regarding their basements and first level of their home all year round!
This homeowner called us out to their home to give them a quote for insulation and a new basement window in Simsbury, CT. They were having problems with humidity, dust and allergens, musty smells, and cold floors. We went to this home and performed our Full Home Energy Evaluation and we knew exactly what was causing these issues. There were a few things that needed to be done in order to make these homeowners more comfortable, and energy efficient in their home. In their basement, these homeowners had an old, rotted basement door leading out to the hatchway. Basement hatchway doors are convenient, but if the door has gaps allowing air leakage into the home, that is a problem. In the summer these gaps were letting in a great deal of humidity into the basement, which can leak up into your living space. In the winter, this was allowing freezing cold New England air into the home as well. This door was not pressure treated, or treated with chemicals, to deter moisture from concrete basement walls seeping into the wooden door. Now we knew what we had to do to take care of this inefficient door!
The first thing we need to do, is remove the old rotted door and framing around it. We take out all of the old materials and properly dispose of them. Next, we install proper framing around the door area. Now, we can install our new, insulated door surrounded by weather stripping to keep out harsh outdoor humid and cold air. This door is now energy efficient! Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver these homeowners can live more comfortable, happy, and energy efficient in their homes.
This home owner in Bloomfield, CT had a humidity problem in there bathroom due to not having a bathroom fan. By not having a fan, you are letting all that humidity stay in the bathroom with no where for it to go. This eventually will cause mold to grow on the Sheetrock walls and mold is not something you want in your home. To fix this problem, our team installed a high efficiency bath fan. After we installed the fan, we have to duct the vent out the home by running the vent to the Gable side of the home. We then attach it to a proper vent so the humid air can escape. Now the homeowners will not have any more mold in their bathroom!
This homeowner in Bloomfield, CT called us to and check out her basement. She was getting a lot of water in through her basement window. To fix this, we decided on replacing the window and installing our SunHouse Basement Window Encloser. To do this, we first had to rip out the old metal framed window well. We had to dig out the earth in front of the window. Next, we lay down stone in the hole we dug to help the water disperse. Then, we put in our SunHouse window well and the cover. We caulk and screw everything in place, this homeowner will not have to worry about water coming through her window again!
This business owner in Lenox, Ma called us out because he needed some interior walls soundproofed at his bed and breakfast. Hh had customers complaining about noise between rooms so we came and took care of his problem. What we did was dense pack the problem walls with out trusoft cellulose. This is not only a great insulator, it is also one of the best soundproofing products on the market when you dense pack it. In this example, we drilled through the top in the attic to get to the walls. the we simply dense packed the walls. once that is done we plugged up the holes we made drilling through the top plates.
After we completed this project, he has not gotten another complaint about noise again!
This home owner in Windsor, CT call us out to help make her temp. upstairs more consistent throughout the rooms. One thing we must take into account with every home is stack effect. Hot air rises through your home and leaks into your attic and is gone forever. To stop this warm air from leaving. we must air seal. Air sealing will help stop the convective air from escaping into your attic. When we air seal we must air seal every penetration in the attic so air cannot find its way through. After we do this we can blow insulation. Air sealing this home will be a great start to making this home more consistent!
This home owner in Blandford, MA called us to his home to see if we could help make a room more comfortable year round. The room he wanted to focus on had an old dirt crawlspace beneath it. This is a problem because this area can be super cold in the winter and very hot and humid in the summer. This crawlspace was the reason why this room was so uncomfortable.
To fix this issue we have to encapsulate this crawl space. To that, the first thing we do is remove all the old nasty fiberglass insulation out of the crawl space. Once that is done. we start to insulate the walls with our 2" Silverglo foam board. After this, the next step is to lay down our dimple drainage mat. Once this is done, we lay our our Terr-block insulation foam board right over the drainage mat. Once these steps have been completed we can start to install our Cleanspace 20 mil thick vapor barrier on the floors and on the walls. The last step is to spray foam the rim joist so that the entire area is closed off from the outside elements.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has come and completed this project, this room will now stay more comfortable year round!
This home owner in Blandford, MA called us to his home to see if we could help reduce the amount of humidity that was in his basement. When our building science specialist got to the home he knew exactly what to do.
To fix the problem that was occurring we had to insulate the basement walls. A lot of cold from the outside was conducting into the basement through the walls. When this cold air hit the warm air in the house it created humidity. So, we use our Foamax Insulation panels on the walls. This treatment will help stop any outside elements from coming into the basement and affecting this space.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions came to this home and did this treatment, this home owner will not have to worry about humidity in his basement ever again!
This homeowner called us out to their home in South Windsor, CT to take a look at some serious problems they were experiencing. The main reason they called Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions was because they were having issues with mold in their kitchen and basement. Due to some water damage over time there was mold under the kitchen sink, leaking down onto the rim joist in the basement. Humidity issues in the basement also took a part in that. When we got to the home we asked the homeowner about all of their concerns, for the entire home. The mold issue was their main concern, but they also were experiencing another problem. Their basement was always very uncomfortably humid. The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps in the framing members allow for a great deal of air leakage in and out of the home. This can result in cold floors, high heating and cooling bills, as well as condensation in the basement and crawlspaces. When its hot and humid out, the homeowner was experiencing this poor air quality. This was due to outside air easily leaking into the home, making the basement an uncomfortable space. First we take care of the kitchen issues, and we can focus on the basement. Now, we know what we need to do to help this homeowner.
The first thing we need to do is spray our Mold-X treatment spray on the effected areas on the rim joist. We make sure we take care of all of the mold in the basement in order to be able to properly air seal with no reoccurring mold issues. After we have completed this step we are ready to air seal. We spray our two-part expanding SprayFoam over the rim joist and end plates. This stops all air leaks from outside and insulates this important part of your home. Dr. Energy Savers SprayFoam has a high insulation value of R7. Since this foam expands after we spray, it seals up all of the gaps, cracks, and joints where air from the outside was easily entering the home. This finally corrected the basement mold and humidity problem. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner is now more comfortable, happy, and energy efficiently in their home no matter the season!!
This homeowner called us out to their home in South Windsor, CT to help them with their freezing cold basement. When we conducted our full home Energy Evaluation we noticed that their basement walls were insulated with fiberglass insulation. Fiberglass insulation will not work efficiently on its own, we know that if there isn't something covering the open side of the fiberglass insulated walls air is easily able to travel in and out of the home. In the winter this can create freezing cols basements, and cold floors above. We knew what we needed to do to help this homeowner.
We install our Fomax foam boards on the basement walls covering the fiberglass. We make sure to fasten the foam boards with Dr. Energy Saver's Foam-Tite Fasteners to keep the board in place. Now that the board is up, the fiberglass isn't left to try and do all the work on its own. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this is now a comfortable, warmer basement for this homeowner!
This homeowner in South Windsor, CT wanted to reduce drafts and humidity in the basement. When we conducted our Home Energy Evaluation we noticed, as with most homes, there was no insulation in the rim joists in the basement. Rim joists are often uninsulated which allows cold dry air to enter the home in the winter and warm humid air to enter in the summer. We know that to make these floors warmer we needed to get some insulation in there.
Our team used our closed-cell polyurethane spray foam insulation to air seal and insulate the rim joist. The foam expands ensuring all cracks and gaps are sealed to prevent outside air from entering. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner will have warmer floors, and their home will be more comfortable and easier to heat and cool.
This homeowner in West Suffield, CT had a problem with her cold and moist basement. One of our trained building scientists noticed she didn't have a basement door suitable to stop the outside elements from coming into her home. Our team got to work ripping out the old framing. After that was done we installed new pressure treated wood so the framing would not rot. once that was done we installed the new steel insulated door, and air sealed the gaps for an air tight seal. Now the basement will stay dryer and warmer for longer.
This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA had us come out because he had inadequate insulation in his attic. To start this project off the first thing we had to do was remove the old, nasty, insulation. Then we must air seal ever single top plate, end plate, and penetration to stop the convective air from escaping from the conditioned space to the attic. After that we baffle, flag all the electrical, and staple up our rulers. The last thing to do now is to blow our Trusoft cellulose. This home owner now will live more comfortable and efficient in his home!
This home owner in Pittsfield, Ma had us come out to see what we can do for the mold problem in his basement. When we went into the basement we realized that there was a huge crawlspace. These areas can be pretty nasty environments due to the high levels of humidity that can be in crawlspaces. Mold will grow at a relative humidity level of 70%. To stop the humidity from rising past this threshold we must encapsulate the entire area. First this we do is install our Silverglo on the walls. This stop the conductive temperatures from getting into the crawlspace. (heat/cold moving through a solid surface) Then we lay down our dimple mat drainage mat so if any moisture comes through the floor it will collect in the dimples and evaporate without rising the relative humidity. Next step is to lay down our Terra-block insulation board down for some much needed R-value. Next step is to install the 20mil Cleanspace vapor barrier making sure all seems are tapped for a good seal. Last thing to do is to spray the rim joist and tie it into the encapsulation for a complete seal. After we are done, this home will not have mold in the basement ever again!
This home owner in Pittsfield, MA called us out to his home to see what we could do to help save him money on his heating and cooling bills. When we got to the home our building science expert was on his inspection he noticed that the attic had barely any insulation! No wonder why he was spending so much on his bills!
To fix this we have to insulate the attic to stop the air that we pay for, from leaving the home. In this case it was a walk up attic so instead of insulating the attic floor we moved the thermal barrier to the attic ceiling. To do this we installed our Super Attic treatment. This treatment uses EPS foam board on the rafters making sure to air seal in between each piece of Silverglo EPS foam board. once we do this we go around the attic making sure every crack is air sealed to make sure this attic is air tight.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has come out and took care of this problem, this home owner will save a ton of money on heating and cooling his home!
This home owner in Pittsfield, MA called us to her home to see if would could help reduce her ice damning problems. When our building science specialist was on his inspection, he notice that the attic was poorly insulated. This was letting the air that this home owner paid to he escape into the attic. Once it is there it starts to warm up the roof deck to above 32 degrees. Then it starts to melt the snow on the roof, letting the water run down to the gutter line were it re freezes. When this happens over and over again, the ice dam that it builds up can cause massive amounts of damage to your home.
To fix this problem, we have to properly air seal and insulate this attic space so the hot air cannot get into the attic. First thing we do is remove the old fiberglass insulation. After we do this we air seal the entire attic making sure to get every top plate, end plate, and all the penetrations. Then we can blow our Trusoft cellulose insulation to 20 inches to get an R-value of 60.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has came to this home and completed this treatment, this home owner will not have to worry about ice dams ever again!
A Homeowner called us out to their historical home built in 1900 in Pittsfield, MA to take a look at a problem they were having. They originally called us to give a full Home Energy Evaluation to help understand what was going in in their home. The problem they were having was due to no insulation in the attic, resulting in ice damns in the winter. When we got to the home and performed our Home Energy Evaluation we noticed that there was no insulation at all in the attic. This specific style home has a sloped roof, with knee-walls in the attic that are very difficult to keep warm or cold depending on the season. This knee wall is directly above a bedroom. The lack of any insulation was making it extremely hard to cool and heat the upper level of their home, in the bedroom living spaces. This made these homeowners uncomfortable in their home all year round.
To fix this problem, we use our Super Kneewall Treatment. Since we have no old insulation to take out and dispose of, we can get right to blocking and air sealing. First, we use our 4" SilverGlo insulation boards to block off air from getting through the ceiling joists and bays. Our SilverGlo expanded foam insulation boards are infused with graphite which increases R-Value by 24%. Around those blocks, we spray our one part foam to seal the edges and make sure no air can travel through the cracks. Then, we install our SilverGlo foam boards under the rafters up to the knee-wall and also sealed with one part foam. Now we have properly sealed so that outdoor conditions can no longer effect this living space. Next, we have to dense pack the roof slopes with our TruSoft cellulose insulation to stop air flow as well as insulate this non insulated attic. Our last step is to blow our TruSoft cellulose insulation above the flat ceiling. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners can now live more comfortable in their bedrooms all year long! They also will no longer experience ice dams!!!
This homeowner called us out to their home in Pittsfield, MA to see what we could do to make their home more efficient. While conducting our Full Home Energy Evaluation we noticed that they had a very old, corroded wooden basement window. We asked the homeowner if they were paying a high heating bill and they said that they were. We explained to the customer an old wood basement window in a stone foundation is very inefficient. When this type of window is in a stone foundation it allows a lot of heat to escape buy conduction through the cold glass. This is because a home has lower air pressure at the bottom, the basement, and sucks a great deal of cold air in from the exterior of the home. Another issue that was occurring was because of the damming environment near the ground, causing rot on the existing window.
To fix this basement window, we need to fully replace the entire window with our Dr. Energy Saver High Efficiency Window. We must first remove the old window and frame completely. We make sure to clean and properly prep the window area for a new window to be put in. The next thing we do is install our new High Efficiency Windows. These windows are double pained with a special metallic coating on top to reduce heat flow in or out through the glass. The last step is to seal the window with our window and door foam! These windows will never rot, rust, or need to be repainted. Now that this new window is set and put in these customers can live in a more healthy, happy, and energy efficient home!
This customer in Suffield, CT called us out to help them with a problem they were having in their home. The problem was that they were having trouble keeping the room above their garage warm in the winter. Old fiberglass insulation leaves too much space for air to circulate around them, eliminating the R-value and making the room above cold and drafty in the winter.
To fix this we have to add more insulation into the garage ceiling. First we must drill holes in the garage ceiling. We need to do this in order to have somewhere to insert and dense pack our TruSoft cellulose insulation. That brings us to our next step. We take a flexible long dense pack hose and insert it all the way into the ceiling and across the top to fill in any space. Then we start dense packing with out TruSoft cellulose insulation. This will crush and condense the insulation previously in the ceilings and increases the insulation value. This density also stops airflow through the floor from air leaks. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions this customer is now comfortable in their room above the garage all year long!
This homeowner was experiencing a lot of air leakage in their attic creating cold drafty rooms as well as heat loss in the winter. The heat loss created an increase in the cost of heating the home. We removed all of the old, ineffective fiberglass insulation. Fiberglass is not a proper insulator because of how fluffy it is- air is able to travel through it. After the removal we begin to air seal and insulate. By air sealing all of the gaps with our foam insulation and blowing in Dr. Energy Savers TruSoft cellulose insulation, it created a more comfortable environment for the entire home and family. Our TruSoft cellulose insulation is treated with natural borate compounds. Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has decreased the energy costs, making the rooms below a comfortable living space for the whole family.
This customer called us out in regards to a problem he was having in his home. The problem was that this mobile home had a lot of ice damming in the winter. ice damming can severely damage your home! Ice dams occur after heavy snowfall when warm air in the attic causes the roof to warm and the snow to melt due to poor insulation. To fix this, we have to first remove all of the old fiberglass batting insulation that is not doing its job. We properly bag and dispose of those materials. Now its time to air seal. We air seal all accessible penetrations, end plates and top plates where air can leak from your home into your attic. This is done with our two part foam. Next, our TruSoft cellulose insulation is blown in the attic to get our optimum R-value of R60. With this we fill all of the gaps and odd shaped voids so that thermal bridging is avoided. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy solutions this happy customer can live comfortable without ice damming this winter!
This home owner in Westfield, MA called us out because he was having ice dams in the winter. This is not a good sign. Ice dams can ruin a home and cost ten of thousands in repairs. The reason these dams are occurring is because the heat you pay for rises up into the attic and heats the roof deck to over 32 degrees, melting the snow. The snow runs down the roof until it gets to the gutters and re-freezes making a dam. To stop this from happening, we must air seal this home. We will stop the hot air from getting into your attics by sealing every single gap, crack, and penetration from the conditioned space to the attic. Once we have this done the house is one step closer to being ice dam free!
This homeowner in Westfield, Ma called us out because he could keep his home comfortable in the winter. The temperature would always change and his furnace would be on all of the time. During the inspection of the home, we found that he had an interior wall exposed to an attic space. This wall was letting heat escape in the attic by conducting right through the Sheetrock. To stop this, we started to insulate the wall with our silverglo foam EPS board. By putting this insulation board on the wall, it will stop the heat from conduction through the Sheetrock. Since the heat is now not escaping, this area of the home will be much more comfortable and the furnace will not have to run nearly as much!
This home owner in Feeding Hills, MA called us to his home to see if we could help reduce the amount of water that was coming into his basement. When our building science specialist was on his inspection of the basement, he noticed that all the water was coming in from the bilco door to the outside. To make things worse, he did not have a steel insulated door to protect his home!
So, to fix this issue we first caulked the bilco door so no water could get in from that way, Then we installed our steel insulated basement door. Once we complete this door project the water will not be able to come into the basement and effect the home.
Now that Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions has came and completed this project, this home owner will not have to worry about water in his basement any more!
