Cold Floors- What can you do about it?

If you have cold floors- you know it. You are always in socks and slippers to make that morning cup of coffee and that Sunday morning family breakfast. If you have cold floors, you could have higher heating and cooling bills, drafts and uncomfortable rooms. Check out the coupon at the bottom of this page for $200 off your project!

For those of you nodding your heads along to this- there are solutions that we can help you with! There are a few things that can cause these concerns.

The first is an uninsulated rim joist. The rim joist is the outer perimeter of the first floor framing system. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house.  It is often not insulated, and never air sealed. Some homes do have ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass does not stop the flow of cold air into your home!

The second thing affecting those cold floors and other concerns, is uninsulated concrete basement walls. Basement walls are buried in the cold earth and are about 17° colder than we would like the interior of our homes to be . In the winter the part of the foundation that sticks up above the ground is even colder than that!. It is impossible to heat them up, and keep the basement warm, and by cause and effect, keep your floors warm.

There are two treatments Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions can use to help drastically reduce or eliminate these concerns. The first treatment we can use is to insulate the concrete basement walls with our Foamax (Polyiso) Insulation boards. Polyisocyanurate  has the flame retardant properties to satisfy building codes when it is left exposed in a basement. We install the Foamax along the basement walls to drastically reduce heat flow from inside to outside! This is how those heating bills will start to decrease. We use our Foam-Tite fasteners to hold the boards in place. This will help with the warmer floors, less drafts, and lower heating and cooling bills. There is one more treatment we can do to further help these concerns!

The second treatment is to install our two-part expanding spray foam on the rim joist and over sill plate. This will stop air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of your home. Our patented spray foam product has a high insulation value. Since  it expands, it's able to seal all gaps and cracks where air from the outside enters the home. This will make that drastic decrease in cold floors, drafty rooms, and high heating and cooling bills. Best of all, these treatments can make you comfortable in your home!
