Air Seal & Wrap Open Air Space Around Chimney in Simsbury, CT

Our Simsbury, CT customer called Fogarty's Home Services because his home was very uncomfortable due to insufficient insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist conducted a Free Home Energy Evaluation, one of the problems he discovered was open air space around the chimney in the attic. That open space was allowing air that the customer paid to heat his home with to continuously leak out of the attic. To solve this problem, Fogarty's Home Services installed metal flashing against the space between the wood framing and masonry. Next, we sealed the chimney airtight and installed completely fireproof "Rock Wool" insulation panels. Our happy customer will now feel a much more comfortable temperature in his home and his energy bills will be lower. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"

SuperAtticâ„¢ Installation to Combat Ice Dams in North Adams, MA

Our North Adams, MA customer reached out to Fogarty's Home Services after experiencing ice damming. She was concerned that they would cause leaking and damage in her attic. After one of our Home Comfort Specialists completed a free Home Energy Evaluation, we determined that her vented attic needed more sufficient insulation.  Vented attics are hostile places (-30°F in the winter and 125°F in the summer). Heat from the house in the attic melts snow on the roof where it refreezes at the eaves causing destructive ice damming. After installing this SuperAttic™ Advanced Conversion system in our customer's home, she not longer has a hostile environment in her attic that will cause ice damming. She also has a less drafty, more energy efficient home. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"

Fix Leaky Attic Pull-Down Stairs in North Adams, MA

When our North Adams, MA customer reached out to Fogarty's Home Services to help make his attic more energy efficient, we were happy to help. One improvement we made was to install an exclusive "David Lewis Hatch Cover™" (named for the engineer who developed it). This hatch cover rests right over the pull-down stairs. It stops air leakage and insulates over the stairs. Made of lightweight SilverGlo™ foam insulation, you just lift it aside to go up into your attic, and set it back in place when you leave. SilverGlo™ foam insulation has graphite infused into the foam which bumps up the insulation value by 24% over standard EPS foam. It also has a radiant barrier (foil) on the flat lid to reflect heat back in during winter and out in the summer, so the insulation isn't doing all the work by itself. Now our happy customer has a tighter, more comfortable, less drafty home. He'll notice a much more comfortable temperature year-round and lower energy bills. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"

Insulating an Attic in North Adams, MA

This homeowner in North Adams, MA called us after he noticed that he had mold in his attic. While part of his issue was his roof leaking, another part entirely was the air leaking and high humidity caused by insufficient insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, he noticed that this homeowner had blown-in fiberglass insulation.

We first had to remove the insulation in the attic, leaving it bare,. We then began air sealing the cracks and crevices in the attic. This is where the "before" shot is taken - we are beginning that work. It is Zypfoam, a low pressure one component polyurethane foam sealant. It is designed to seal, fill, bond, and stop air infiltration. It is a very important step to prevent the air you pay to cool from heading up into your attic!

After that, we re-insulated the attic with our TruSoft™ blown-in cellulose. TruSoft™ is 85% recycled content. The other 15% is liquid boric acid, which makes it flame resistant, mold resistant, and rodent resistant.

Reducing Ice Dams and Making a Home More Comfortable in North Granby, CT

This home owner in North Granby, CT  called us because they had big ice dams on there home. Ice dams can be very disruptive to a home and could cause you to pay thousands on fixing the damage they made. Ice dams occur when heat from your living space escapes into the attic and heats the roof deck. This will melt the snow on the roof. The water runs down to the gutter line and refreezes. The more snow that melts, the bigger the dam gets and more of a chance it damages your home. To fix this we have to stop the heat from entering the attic. First thing we do is remove the old insulation and start air sealing. this will stop heat from coming through any gaps, cracks, or any other penetrations. After this we blow our Trusoft cellulose insulation to a R-value of R-60 to further protect the home. Now that this is done. The heat from your home will not be able to reach the roof deck and cause any more ice dams!
